Invisalign

Invisalign® aligners are a virtually invisible method of straightening teeth without the need for noticeable fixed braces. This innovative system features a series of clear, custom-made aligners that gradually move teeth to a new improved position. It is an attractive option for adults and teenagers who may feel self-conscious about sporting more obvious metal braces with their unsightly brackets and wires.

As well as being comfortable, these aligners can also be taken out for short periods of time so you can eat whatever you choose, keep your teeth and gums clean, and leave them at home for special occasions.

How does Invisalign straighten teeth?

  • If you are a suitable candidate for Invisalign®, we will use 3D technology to take pictures of your teeth and create a personalised plan. This will let you see exactly how your teeth will look during and after treatment.
  • When ready, your first aligner will be put in place over your teeth and you will wear this for a couple of weeks, after which time you will move to the next tailor-made aligner. By wearing a slightly different one every two weeks, a controlled force will precisely move your teeth to the desired position.
  • The length of time it will take will vary depending on your unique requirements, but the majority of cases are completed in 6-12 months. Though the aligners can be taken out, it’s a good idea to wear them for a minimum of 22-24 hours a day to ensure a shorter treatment period. As with all orthodontic treatments, you will have to wear a retainer after the realignment process to keep your straighter smile firmly in place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Invisalign is a modern orthodontic treatment that uses clear, removable aligners to straighten teeth. They gradually shift teeth into the desired position and it is an alternative to traditional metal braces and is virtually invisible.
Invisalign uses a series of custom-made aligners that gradually shift your teeth into the desired position. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks before being replaced by the next in the series. Treatment typically takes about 12 to 18 months depending on the severity of the patient’s orthodontic issues.
Invisalign aligners should be worn for 20 to 22 hours per day. They should only be removed for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing.
Invisalign is suitable for most people, but it may not be recommended for individuals with severe bite problems or complex dental issues. An orthodontic consultation can help determine if Invisalign is the right treatment for you.
Invisalign is generally less painful than traditional braces, but you may experience some discomfort or pressure when switching to a new set of aligners. This is normal and usually subsides within a few days.
You should remove your Invisalign aligners when eating or drinking anything other than water. This helps prevent staining and damage to the aligners.
Invisalign aligners should be cleaned with a soft-bristled toothbrush and water. Do not use toothpaste or other abrasive cleaners, as these can scratch the surface of the aligners.
Some patients may experience a slight change in their speech during the first few days of wearing Invisalign aligners, but this typically resolves on its own.
